About
iCeMS Venture Studio
The iCeMS Venture Studio is an initiative of the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), Kyoto University, dedicated to advancing the creation of science-based startups emerging from iCeMS research.
Anchored in research seeds contributed by iCeMS scientists—including discoveries, inventions, and early-stage ideas—the Venture Studio works alongside researchers to develop pathways toward commercialization.
It provides coordinated support across key stages of venture development, including the refinement of business strategies, facilitation of early-stage funding, proof-of-concept (PoC) development, formation of founding leadership teams, intellectual property and contractual strategy, engagement with industry partners, and access to mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and investors.
Through this integrated approach, the Venture Studio enables researchers to remain focused on fundamental science while ensuring that promising discoveries can progress toward societal and commercial impact.
It also seeks to foster a sustainable innovation ecosystem in which value generated by successful startups is reinvested to support future research and innovation at the university.
